FBi Radio has announced the return of their DJ skills and mentoring initiative FBi’s Dance Class.

FBi Radio has announced the return of their DJ skills and mentoring initiative FBi’s Dance Class.

For those that haven't heard of FBi’s Dance Class. It's a unique, comprehensive program designed to discover, train and mentor a new crop of female talent in the electronic music industry. The program matches emerging female mixers with established mentors operating as figureheads of the Sydney scene.

FBi Radio’s Managing Director Clare Holland says “It’s hard to ignore the gender imbalance when it comes to women in electronic music. FBi’s Dance Class is our attempt to do something about it. More women visible as DJs and producers means that other young women will see this as a possible pathway for them.”

FBi’s Dance Class had a hugely successful launch in 2015, kick-starting the careers of Lauren Hansom, SPORTS (Maddy Carr), Genie (Genevieve Collier), Ellie Locke and Mirã Bõru (Tess Nicolaou).

For their second installment, the four trainees selected will participate in a series of master classes delivered by FBi Radio presenters and alumni including DJs Andy Garvey (who will be playing at our Tenth Birthday event) Adi Toohey, Kali and FBi’s Program Director Caroline Gates.

These workshops will cover DJing with CDJs and Serato, mixing vinyl, radio presenting, music business and more. At the completion the participants will then helm their own radio show in a residency on FBi Click, the same very station we host a show on, as well as a live debut with a party at FBi Radio on October 19.

FBi’s Dance Class invites applications from young women with excellent taste in new dance music and the thirst to become DJs. Applications are now open at: fbiradio.com/danceclass.
