Live Review: How To Be Funky According To Client Liaison

CLIENT LIAISON just wrapped up a pretty extensive tour around Australia and if you saw them on your local stop, you'd know how incredibly charismatic the band becomes on stage.

With synchronised struts and majestic dance moves that could calm a cobra, Monte Morgan is the front man we all want to be and Harvey Millar creates the grooviest sounds we've heard in years. So how do we inject a bit of their electric essence into our everyday? Read on to see what we picked up from Client Liaison's most enticing appearances to date.

1. Gain some of the smooth-ass dance moves

One of the best things about Client Liaison live is that they don't just perform their songs live, they put on a show. They create an energetic atmosphere that everyone can get around and Monte's smooth moves seem to draw every person in the audience in. With perfectly-timed high kicks and roping in the live band for some synchronised slides, Monte has got his performance down to the finest detail and it keeps the crowd hooked throughout the show.

2. Grab a live band with a bit of sass

For quite a while now, Client Liaison have been bringing a bass player and electric guitar master to their shows who bring an extra flavour to the performance. Bass player Tom Tilley knows how to slap his instrument to know end and pull the sassiest faces you've ever seen. He fits into the band's aesthetic perfectly and shares a moment with Monte a few times throughout the new show. Their guitarist Geordie Miller, also brother of Harvey, has an attitude all of his own. He can shred and when he steps up to centre stage to do a bit of a solo, you feel badass, which is probably how he feels every time he's performing because he definitely looks like one while he's up there.

3. Wear your clothes with flair

Client Liaison know how to pull together a look. With even their merch making you look like you just stepped out of an episode of Miami Vice, the band have a solid idea of how they want to look. Only Monte could pull off a white mesh t-shirt underneath a pale pink suit and Harvey looks damn sharp in a straw fisherman's hat. Their look is something Client Liaison have become known for and these days, you'll see the audience sporting 80's style ski jackets and full on white tennis outfits attempting to imitate the band's image.

4. Make friends who can also draw a crowd

GL supported the band their recent tour and when they opened the night, the dance floor was far from empty. With smooth sounds and vocalist Ella Thompson giving it all she's got, the band really create a presence and show that they've got what it takes to get things going. Thompson also appeared on stage singing a wonderful duet with Monte. Although her moves seemed quite small compared to the elasticity of Morgan, Thompson still proved that she's got a voice that could match some of the greatest vocalists we've seen.

Ready to get funky? We may not be able to match Client Liaison-level sauciness but we can sure as hell try. Welcome to the world of their love!
