Live Review: VHS Dreams channels some on-point 2007 electro on 'Vice Point'

VHS DREAMS is making electro cool again, but with a slight 80's twist. Think more Com Truise than Green Velvet.

2007 was literally one of my favourite years for dance music. Electro was massive, collectives like Modular were on top, and dance music was cool again.

Being 2007, I was actually only twelve at the time, so I had my Ministry of Sound Annual/Sessions compilations to keep me company (thx Dirty South John Course).

I stood by it growing up as a teenager, and I'll stand up for it now as an adult. Electro always was and will be one of the most fun genres to stem from dance music. Whether it brings back some kind of dorky nostalgia or genuinely makes you feel good, it's always one to come back to.

He's got a new, remastered version of I guess we can only assume was an older track. 'Vice Point' is the name of this one, and wow it is definitely nostalgic.

There's that classic, pulsating wave of keys that the electro era made us so familiar with, but plastered on top of it, is this high-pitched melody that throws us straight back into 80's pop.

It's got a beat for the dancefloor, the robotics of an 80's dance video and the theatrics of everything that is good about dance music. It's synthwave at its finest, and it's so clear that VHS Dreams has got a real knack for recontextualising old sounds for a new audience.
