Live Review: Sidechains go all out on their 'Club Vol. 2' compilation

22 April 2016 | 10:12 am | Caitlin Medcalf

A while after their first, Sidechains have just given us their second Club compilation and boy is it a doozy.

At this point, I'm thoroughly convinced that Sydney collective Sidechains can do no wrong. They've covered all creative bases; style, graphic design, music taste and ability and all round innovation when it comes to the creative.

Not afraid to share their unique vision with clubgoers around Sydney, they've just recently set up shop at Plan B Small Club. With a new home to continue their forward-thinking approach to music and culture, they're set to dominate over the course of 2016, and that's something we're definitely confident in.

A little while back the team put their heads together with a couple of like-minded producers and came up with what was the Sidechains Club Volume 1 compilation. Piled with local talent that basically had yet to come out onto the scene, they very early on solidified their place as tastemakers, and this compilation only made it history.

A while after, they've just given us their second Club compilation and boy is it a doozy.

By now you'd probably know that they're big fans of PC Music and the like. It rings true within the acts they book, the sounds they support and now the compilations they share too.

This one's absolutely top heavy with feel good vibes, a bubblegum pop sensibility that comes out feeling incredibly smart and well tempered, as well as an overall flair that is definitively Sidechains and no one else. Not only this, there's also an incredible array of genres woven in through this one. Drum and bass, grime, dance, pop and a whole heap of others make this compilation so incredibly varied and individualised.

Featuring work from DEER, Donatachi & Rosebud Leach, Friendships, Secundus and a heap more, it's one for the pool room, one for your car speakers, and even more so, one for the club. Take a listen.
