Live Review: SAATSUMA have excited us with their debut release, 'Storm'

18 January 2016 | 11:30 pm | Hannah Galvin

Melbourne newcomers, SAATSUMA have delighted us with their debut single, 'Storm'.

Introducing, SAATSUMA, the creative collective combining the mighty fine talents of Melbourne friends, Memphis KellyJoel Ma and Cesar Rodrigues. Feeding off each other's innovative spirit and the influential music taste of each respective member, the trio have worked hard in the studio to invent their debut EP. Due in the earlier part of 2016, swoon over its first release, 'Storm'.

A sombre guitar becomes accompanied by the earnest backdrop of blunt beats and ethereal drones, skimming the flat waters of a rather large yet lonely body. This ambient backdrop is charmed by the delicate vocals of, SAATSUMA's front lady, though carries with it an imminent feeling you just cannot shake off.

This is until the chorus paves way, where a sense of relief is offered for the persona's tale, through lyrical acceptance, a subtle vocal change and the matured climactic soundscape. Juggling these entities for the entirety of the track, 'Storm' concludes with a lyrical twist, adorned by the endearing counterhoop taps to conceptually resonate with the notions of distant rain.
