Live Review: SoundCloud Wrap: R.W. Grace

17 November 2015 | 3:24 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

In amongst her time on the road, R.W. Grace found some time to give us a run down of what she's been listening to as of late.

She's been a busy gal lately, and it's only about to get busier for the Perth-via-Sydney songstress. R.W. GRACE is gracing the world with her hard work and incredibly gorgeous sound this Friday with the release of her debut EP Love It Need It Miss It Want It.

Not only this, but she's just finishing up supporting Matt Corby on his national tour, taking to venues like the Metro Theatre in Sydney and the Forum Theatre in Melbourne.

Her sound is entirely tonal. Obviously in the sonic sense, but it's more so that her tracks glimmer with light and shade, and have a tendency to find an incredibly tense emotional balance between her lyrics and vocals.

R.W. Grace has absolutely mastered that tension between electronic music and pop music, and she's in that weird grey area that up until recently, has remained largely untouched because it's incredibly tough to find any common ground.

In amongst her time on the road, she found some time to give us a run down of what she's been listening to as of late. The results? Some of the most creative people in pop and electronic music today. Take a listen.

Javelin 'Like Wood Would'

Javelin are so freaking great. I love their spaghetti western inspired tracks the most. The best stuff I've ever found from them is hidden within the crevices of the internet.

Arrange 'On The Leaves'

I've been following Malcom Lacey for a few years now. His tracks are so sensitive and torn. My favourite kind.

How To Dress Well '& It Was U'

This is my Summer jam.

Youth Lagoon 'Mute'

I find Youth Lagoon super transportive. I find listening to his records most enjoyable while riding my bike and watching the world flash by.

Friends 'Friend Crush'

I remember when this record first came out it sounded so fresh. I've been revisiting it lately and it still sounds really cool and urgent.

Robyn 'Call Your Girlfriend'

The pop master. Her melodies crush my heart in the best way possible.

Blood Orange 'It Is What It Is'

It's my absolute dream to work with Dev Hynes. There's something really magical about his melodies and delicate synth patterns.

Toro Y Moi 'Buffalo'

The BEST time to listen to this song is when you're sobering up at a party, sitting on the couch at 2am and can't leave because your friend is making out with someone in the kitchen and they're your ride.

Ramona Lisa 'Backwards And Upwards'

Super crazy production and lyrics. Caroline is such a unique writer. I can't wait to hear the new Chairlift record and hear what she does next.

Francisco The Man 'Loaded'

Mostly it's the vocal I'm drawn to in this track, which I'd love to get isolated and sing along with. There's a beautiful desperation and longing in this.
