Live Review: ROMY 'Wild Heart'

22 November 2015 | 1:40 pm | Emma Jones

Brisbane's Romy is stepping out on her own after working with the likes of Akon and T-Pain, and her latest single 'Wild Heart' is the perfect way to do it.

She splits her time between L.A. and Brisbane, and has worked with the likes of AKON and T-PAIN, but the time has now come for ROMY herself to take centre stage. Releasing her debut track this week titled 'Wild Heart', Romy has arrived on the scene in style, and something tells us we will be hearing a lot more from her for a long time to come.

Teaming up with local producer JAMES ANGUSRomy blew the internet away when she released 'Wild Heart'. Delicate but powerful, her voice glides effortlessly over Angus' thick synths, rolling cymbals and 808s to die for. As far as debut singles go, this one is as formidable as they come.

With a dynamic and commanding voice, she borrows influences from the likes of TINASHE without ever sounding the same as anyone. She keeps her own style and, when complimented by the progressive and forward-thinking production courtesy of Angus, creates something entirely her own.

In a time when the scene is positively saturated with artists having a crack at that "future RnB" sound, Romy takes a step away from the trends and it works totally in her favour.

Said to be readying an EP, it seems it's all systems go for RomyJames Angus also hinted on his Facebook page that this isn't the only track the duo have worked on together, so here's hoping we get to hear a lot more from this match made in musical heaven - and that we get to hear it soon.
