Live Review: PREMIERE: Full Flower Moon Band 'Chinatown' (Official Video)

9 October 2015 | 3:02 pm | Emma Jones

Full Flower Moon Band are a breath of fresh air and their latest single 'Chinatown' (the final part in their audio/visual EP of the same name) shows why.

Soon-to-be Melbourne based FULL FLOWER MOON BAND are one of the more interesting acts you'll come across these days.

Self described as "valium induced pop", it's the brainchild of leading lady Kate Dillon and we have the first look at their latest release, 'Chinatown'. Taken from their EP of the same name, 'Chinatown' is the fifth and final instalment in Full Flower's audio/visual project which documents the story of “an artist living under surveillance who is forced into isolation." We can pretty much guarantee you wouldn't have seen much else like this before.

Tripped out is an understatement for this clip. With Dillon behind literally every aspect of this whole project, she is a commanding presence on camera, on the mic, on guitar - you get the idea. The trudging riff and Dillon's echoing vocals sound almost drowned in effects, with claps piercing the fuzz. Acid-fuelled and narcotic-tinged, Dillon throws back to bygone eras with her music, whilst using forward-thinking production techniques to give it a modern flair.

As for the visuals, the trippy nature is materialised and then some, with multiple Dillons dancing in a kimono, black and white backgrounds and a man chopping wood with an axe. When both the audio and visual components are combined, 'Chinatown' comes together in a blast of creative force. The kind of force that stops you and makes you think, "Holy shit, what the hell?" Totally enthralling and mesmerising, Full Flower Moon Band are a breath of fresh air. They don't exactly fit in any one genre, whilst at the same time fitting in quite a few. They're doing their own thing and the results are incredibly enjoyable, albeit a little unsettling to watch.

Brisbane fans have just two opportunities to catch the ladies in action before they make the move to Melbourne. Check the dates below and take our advice - don't miss these shows.

Oct 22 - The End
