Live Review: Kuren 'It Still Hurts'

5 October 2015 | 9:37 am | Emma Jones

17-year-old producer from regional NSW, Kuren, has released one hell of a track in the form of 'It Still Hurts', making us very excited for his new EP.

Following on from his flip of The Weeknd (which is casually sitting on 51.1K plays), young NSW producer KUREN has gone and dropped the type of song that makes you feel bad about the lack of accomplishment you may have had when you were 17 like he is. Hard hitting, emotive, fast paced and impossibly refined for someone still in school, 'It Still Hurts' is BIG.

Taken from his forthcoming EP, Love Lost, Kuren is wasting no time in grabbing just about everyone's attention with his unique blend of electronica. Taking inspiration from frontrunners in our local scene, it seems he has really taken note of what to do and what not to do, before combining it all together for his own material.

'It Still Hurts' is all about juxtapositions - soft piano keys and hard hitting, almost trap like drums; mellow intros and explosive bridges; downtempo beats with breakneck synths. It doesn't quite fit anywhere but fits everywhere at the same time. It's a fantastic introduction to his Love Lost EP and certainly has our interest well and truly piqued. Demonstrating raw talent and skill well beyond his years, Kuren is absolutely a producer to be excited about.
