Live Review: Thrupence 'New Light'

'New Light' is refreshingly different to the last Thrupence record - 2014's Lessons.

Okay, 20k+ plays in under 24 hours. THRUPENCE must be doing something right. It feels like a long time since we've heard from the Melbourne producer, but you'll forget all about that once this beat kicks in.

Appearing on the already massive FREE Future Classic 2015 sampler (which already features new cuts from Chrome Sparks, Charles Murdoch and Touch Sensitive), 'New Light' is refreshingly different to the last Thrupence record - 2014's Lessons. Whilst that record was a free-flowing hip-hop beats tape infused release, this new single is more reminiscent of his earlier recordings.

Clean, shimmering production is forefront, with soft keywork and beautiful synth lines fusing together to create a hypnotic effect. It almost feels like a cinematic score rather than a beats single - a completely soothing five minutes. But I don't think anyone summed it up better than this guy:
