Live Review: SOUNDCLOUD WRAP: JOY.

27 August 2015 | 1:21 pm | Tom Hutchins

We were interested in what influences JOY.'s ideas, so we asked her to whip up a SoundCloud Wrap for us.

It's already been a huge year for Olivia McCarthy, and it's only going to get more intense from here on out, as she is almost ready to drop her debut EP as JOY.

Featuring her trademark ethereal vocals, dreamy pop percussion and striking lyricism, Ode EP showcases her masterful production and provides a taste of what’s to come in the future from this gifted multi-instrumentalist.

Of the EP, JOY. stated that: Out of the abundance of beats, material and ideas that I had collected over the past few months, from writing on the road and at home, I found a common thread and felt like these 4 tracks told a good story from start to finish.

We were interested in what influences those ideas, so we asked McCarthy to whip up a SoundCloud Wrap for us. You can listen to it and read about her choices below!

Batts 'For That, I'm Sorry'

"Batts are incredible! This is a super sick song! Tanya's voice is absolutely angelic and when it's dubbed it's even more incredible. and Alistair's production is so simple yet so so tight. They nailed it with this one."

SG Lewis 'No Less'

"This has been my jam for the past couple of months. I found it on majestic casual's stream a while ago and have had it on repeat. It's got a great groove accompanied with those silky smooth vocals."

Anders 'You Didn't Need My Love'

"This song is so beautiful. There's something about the simplicity of just guitar and vocals. This track is so heartfelt."

Cleopold 'Down In Flames'

"Cleopold are my boys! I just finished a tour with them and Miami Horror and when they dropped this track in their set, the crowd always lost their shit. The production is so tight, and his songwriting is next level."

Charles Murdoch 'Dekire' Ft. Oscar Key Sung

"I found this tune on YouTube the other day and also had this on repeat non stop for a few days. Oscar's vocals are so gentle and pretty, the drums are so light. There's also this dope part at the end where it goes deep into synth town and goes hard."

Goldlink 'Sober Thoughts' Ft. Kaytranada

"This song helped me to learn how to cut/charleston. I bumped this in rehearsal and got my groove on. The bass in this is so fuk'd. The funk is ridiculous. Kaytranada is a lord."

Neyo 'Sexy Love' (Phil Gerus Remix)

"This is so funky and fresh. There's something about Neyo's sxc vocals that gets me."

Drake 'Too Much' Ft. Sampha

"Everyone around me hates me at the moment because I keep playing this song nonstop. Sampha is ridiculous, the whole piano sound is amazing, almost sounds sampled. And the beat hits so hard."

JOY.'s Ode EP is out August 28th.
