My Disco Announce New Album ‘Severe’ + Release ‘King Sound’
The good news keeps rolling in today, as minimalistic kings MY DISCO have announced their first album in five years, and you can already hear the first taste of it.
Titled Severe, this will be the first time we’ve heard new music from the dark trio since the critically acclaimed Little Joy LP released in 2010. This time, we’re being promised a different side of My Disco, a side that employs space and lack of sound carefully and intelligently.
The album was recorded, mixed, and produced in Melbourne by acclaimed film composer and producer, Cornel Wilczek. And for the first time, engineered entirely in a digital domain, which has allowed the band to explore more complex territory, such as sine wave drones and heavily effected rhythms and vocals.
We’re told that “Severe is an album of aggravated tonal darkness and long breaths of disturbing silence, punctuated by pounding stabs and heavy, hypnotic rhythms. It is a minimalist approach to maximum sound, and by far the band’s darkest, heaviest, and most consistent album of My Disco‘s burgeoning career.”
The first cut from the LP is ‘King Sound’, an apt title for a powerful track. You can listen to the bleak, tribal and raw creation below:
Severe will be released via Temporary Residence on October 28th. Catch My Disco as headliners of this year’s Paradise Music Festival at Lake Mountain, Victoria on November 27-29.
