Live Review: Pantheon ‘Lock Down’ EP

7 July 2015 | 1:38 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

Unknown Records family member PANTHEON's out on tour at the moment. He's also just dropped a new EP titled 'Lock Down'.

We’re heaps keen on the artists Unknown Records have been bringing to light, particularly as of late. The Wollongong based collective have been hard at work, throwing some insane parties and putting together a close knit family filled to the brim with talent.

One of these artists is PANTHEON, a house master from Sydney who curates some incredibly tasteful tunes.

He’s just brought out a new EP, titled, Lock Down, and for only two tracks, it’s packed full of late night goodness and some incredibly insightful sounds.

The opening track ‘Lock It Down’ gives us some classic house vibes, setting the scene with an infectious blend of hi-hat hits and crafty percussion. Although it feels like classic house, he’s done well in spinning it his own way.

Cut to midway through the track, and a foray of warped synths emerge from the reminiscent sounds that immediately throws us forward to real time. He’s given this a futuristic vibe with his choice in laser like sounds, warped synths, dark vocal samples and a garage vibe that would work well on any dancefloor.

‘This Is Something’ is similar in its classic house vibe, however he’s absolutely locked down and nailed this glistening dancefloor feel. It’s infectious from the opening bar, utilising these laser-like samples in order to throw us into a newer age of dance.

There’s definitely variety in this EP, and Pantheon has definitely done his homework here.

What stands out most for me however, is he’s made this classic vibe so modern and so dancefloor friendly, one that could be thrown into any kind of set, slow or fast.

Pantheon's out on tour at the moment. Check out when he’s heading to a club near you below.
