Live Review: La Mar 'Trick Of The Light'

5 July 2015 | 9:00 am | Emma Jones

La Mar have returned from a lengthy absence with a lot of new tricks up their sleeves a new single 'Trick Of The Light', taken from their forthcoming EP.

It's been a while since we have heard anything from Sydney duo LA MAR, but thankfully that has changed this week with the release of a new song that makes the wait very worthwhile. 'Trick Of The Light' is the track we didn't know we were waiting for, and one that makes us very hopefully for more from La Mar in the very near future.

Slow moving, crisp and sparse, 'Trick Of The Light' shows off just how talented this duo are. With vocalist Dylan Wright laying it down with some stunningly soulful vocals, and producer Andrew Grant flexing some serious production muscle, the pair work effortlessly together with this song.

As they've demonstrated here, the pair must have spent the time they were absent for honing and perfecting their craft, and it has definitely paid off. Showing great control, restraint and - although their debut single, 'Anchor', was indeed a great song - a huge improvement in their sound, all is definitely forgiven for being away for so long with 'Trick Of The Light'.

This song is taken from a forthcoming EP, which will be an interesting listen given this change in sound. The one thing is for certain though is that La Mar are back with a lot of new tricks up their sleeves, and are just about ready to show everyone what they're really made of. We can't wait to see what happens next!
