Live Review: Dornik 'Drive' (BADBADNOTGOOD Remix)

19 July 2015 | 9:00 am | Emma Jones

Dornik is quickly becoming one of the most exciting new acts in 2015, and it seems BADBADNOTGOOD agree with the trio remixing his latest single, 'Drive'.

dornik

DORNIK is a name that gets the internet very excited, and for very good reason. Being tipped as the next Frank Ocean is not a title that handed out to just anyone, but Dornik seems to be doing a good job proving why he deserves it. He dropped 'Drive', which has received close to 200,000 plays on SoundCloud in just a month, and now is set to receive even more love thanks to Canadian jazz-hop duo BADBADNOTGOOD jumping on remix duties.

Having already received a shoutout from Kaytranada on Twitter, it pretty much goes without saying that this pairing is one hell of a match. Turning the Michael Jackson-esque original - featuring a hard hitting drum beat, a guitar riff that would rival Nile Rogers and shimmering synth swells - into a late-night funk jam, BADBADNOTGOOD are in their element with this rework, and the results speak for themselves.

Bubbling synths that sound almost aquatic, their trademark percussion, and switched up lead vocals, the jazz maestros have taken Dornik's original 'Drive' and taken it those few steps further to give it a rich, deeper feel that sounds just as smooth and sexy as the original.

This remix comes in the exciting lead up to the highly anticipated release of Dornik's debut, self-titled album. It drops August 7 via PMR Records, and is already looking like one of the best releases of the year. Let's just hope this isn't the last time these two acts team up, we could always do with more of this!
