Live Review: PREMIERE: Dom Dolla & Go Freek 'Define' (Curses Remix)

21 July 2015 | 4:00 pm | Tom Hutchins

This ain't no radio mix, and it's not for casual listening. This is the kind of creation that deserves its night on the dancefloor.

In what can only be described as an arranged marriage gone right, Sweat It Out!'s own GO FREEK, and DOM DOLLA have come together to create 'Define', a fairly poppy, yet totally club oriented future house tune. If you thought that was last you'd hear of it, you were wrong, as we're here to PREMIERE this remix from CURSES.

You might know Curses from his Drop The Lime days, but now that he's changed up monikers Luca Venezia has moved to Berlin from New York and been working hard to create a new world as Curses. His work infuses dark house and techno influences with ambient, cinematic soundscapes, and it's all on display over the course of this ripper remix.

Almost doubled in length, Curses completely strips the original of it's pop elements, and forces it to become the kind of track you'd hear at 4am in the darkest club you can find. The buildup is slow and brutal, over the course of two minutes you'll have to work with the producer as he barely allows any of the original to poke through a pulsating beat and shimmering synth loop.

Those elements never disappear, but the longer you stick with it, the more you're rewarded. Distorted vocals, warm keywork and samples all make their way into the mix - but they're smashed around by the harsh sounds Curses dishes up.

This ain't no radio mix, and it's not for casual listening. This is the kind of creation that deserves its night on the dancefloor, surrounded by faceless bodies moving aggressively to this seriously heavy beat.

The 'Define' single package is out soon via Sweat It Out!
