Live Review: Cleopold 'Down In Flames'

1 July 2015 | 2:22 pm | Emma Jones

Cleopold might not be a name you know just yet, but now he's signed to Chet Faker's label and has released his debut single, so that's about to change.

CLEOPOLD is a name you might not be familiar with just yet, but something tells me that's all about to change. Having just released his debut single 'Down In Flames' on new label Details Co. Records - run by none other than Chet Faker - things are looking pretty good for Cleopold right now.

This R&B tinged track from the local singer/songwriter is one that demonstrates not just potential to grow and develop, but an already sound skill set that has led to one of the more accomplished debut singles I've heard in quite some time. Taking a lot of influence and inspiration from his labelhead, Cleopold follows a similar style in restrained, yet emotive songs that let his sounds remain organic and natural, which is how he shines.

Expertly produced, the relatively simplistic song has a lot more going on than you would think on your first listen. Although a seemingly positive tune, the lyrics are really quite intimate and show a vulnerability in Cleopold. The production creates a dynamic ebb and flow from the sparse verses and swelling chorus, with guitar jabs, intricate percussion and heavy bass to give it just a little more depth.

Cleopold has recently appeared as a featured vocalist for both Miami Horror and Cassian earlier this year, giving him a solid foundation on which to build his very promising solo career. He is apparently working on an album through Details Co. and will be touring with Miami Horror later this year.
