Tora ‘High Enough’
‘High Enough’, not to be confused with the poptastic hit from Tove Lo last year, is the latest track from Byron Bay chillsters, TORA.
The quintet’s self-professed ‘chillwave’ tag is a celebration of their surf town origins; the twinkling opening notes and warm synths conjure thoughts of a soothing sunset beach scene, probably with some roasted marshmallows thrown in for good measure.
The syncopated rhythms are fused together over the morphing bass and restless melodic samples. Described as ‘patchwork’ electro – if you took some AlunaGeorge beats with some Jai Paul muffled samples and James Blake vocals then you’d be halfway there. It’s much more than just a cut/paste production, and the boys have done well to create a really wholesome complete sound, warm and unrushed.
Band members Tobias Tsounis, Jo Leowenthal, Jai Piccone, Thorne Davis and Shaun Johnston sound like the belong to the most mysterious multicultural Mafia mob ever. Thankfully there’s nothing to fear here – the boys are a humble band who have quietly notched up millions of plays on Soundcloud and are heading out on an extensive European tour, inking deals with Indica Records (Canada) and Eightydays Records (Germany).
