Live Review: R.W. Grace 'Shell'

17 June 2015 | 3:11 pm | Emma Jones

Perth artist RW Grace is back with a new name and a new sound in her new track 'Shell' - bigger, better and more powerful than ever before.

It's pretty amazing what a name change can do for an artist, either good or bad. In the case of R.W. GRACE, it's better than good. Starting off as Grace Woodroofe, followed by Grace, the Perth singer has changed names and sounds for the better, and her latest song 'Shell' is a powerful foot-stomping to say she's different and better than ever before.

Shedding the image of her previous selves, R.W. Grace is not wasting anytime making listeners sit up and listen to what she has to say. From the reverb-drenching opening chords like sirens, drum crashes and her breathy voice formidable over the fray, the song is like her strutting forwards into her new persona - and deservedly so.

With lyrics like "You'll know you'll see/ I'm not who I used to be", the 'Shell' she sings of has been smashed through and R.W. Grace has well and truly emerged from it. Synth heavy, deep and powerful, this track is as formidable as they come, complete with soaring vocals and terrific self harmonies.

R.W. Grace had a busy year last year, with things looking to get even more hectic for her. From supporting Alt-J, Glass Animals and Mansionair, to playing festival slots at The Secret Garden and The Hills Are Alive, 2014 might have been her biggest year to date - but that was before she released this track. Only up from here!
