Live Review: Nao 'Golden'

18 June 2015 | 12:53 pm | Emma Jones

Nao's back with yet another single and perhaps her most uptempo single yet, 'Golden'.

Slowly working her way up tempos, NAO has been busy releasing a string of singles from her February 15 EP, with tracks 'Inhale Exhale' and 'Zillionaire' seeing her receive waves of Internet love. Now, she's back with yet another single and perhaps her most uptempo single yet, 'Golden'.

Not straying too far from her funk infused R&B/pop, Nao really gets the party started with 'Golden'. Showing off her tremendous versatility, this track is packed with feel good vibes from the first few seconds. From the shimmering chimes straight into a funky guitar and finger clicks, Nao is off and racing. Her neo-soul voice is sublime as it comes in with the verse, complete with sunshine-y synths and keys.

Contagious hooks, searing guitar licks and so much funk it's impossible to sit still whilst listening to it, 'Golden' once again show's off Nao's 80's and 90's influences in the best way possible. Building on the legacy of Janet Jackson or Whitney Houston, she has made something entirely her own - which is especially admirable in the oversaturation of the "future RnB" sound.

Refusing to blend in, Nao continually outdoes her self and her peers with her groove dripping, ultra fun tracks with talent to spare. It goes without saying that she is absolutely one to watch, as we predict she is only going to get bigger!
