HOMETOWN GUIDE: Porsches' Top Japanese Hangs In Sydney

3 June 2015 | 12:04 pm | Tom Hutchins

We asked Porsches to take us through their hometown. They didn't listen to us, and decided to tell us about their top Japanese spots instead.

We called it "an anthem for all of us broke students with a partner, or those who are just really, really keen on someone and don’t know what to do". Kilter's latest single is one of the finest releases of the year, so it's not surprising that he got fellow Sydney duo PORSCHES to help bring the track to it's fullest potential.

Porsches are already favourites of Purple Sneakers, not only because of their silky production and songwriting abilities, but also because of their super chill and honest attitudes to their music. So in honour of the new single, and their very first live show coming up very soon - we asked the guys to take us through their hometown.

They didn't listen to us, and decided to tell us about their top Japanese spots instead. So yeah, here's that.

Lantern by Wagaya

Konich! - Curious as to what the future will look like? Well the wait is over, from the moment you step inside, Lantern by Wagaya instantly teleports you to a futuristic utopian JAPANESE universe. Think touchpad menus, 5-star Japanese eats and on site karaoke. The future is Wagaya. The future is now!

photoland

PURIKURA photoland at Capitol Square

Konich! – if Walt Disney and Ken Watanabe had a baby, they would call it Purikura Photoland. This place is the Holy Grail for Japanese-style fun. Block out the rest of your month and try your hand at the teddy bear claw grab machines, wide array of arcade games or better still treat yourself to the Japanese styled photobooths. So KAWAI!

consulate

Consulate – General of Japan, Sydney

Konich! If Cheap Eats, karoake or photobooth doesn’t grill your gyoza. Why not pop into the Japanese Consulate on O’Connell Street. Practise your karate with the security at the front door, flick through Tokyo travel brochures or lodge your very own application to become a Japanese resident.

Warning: your application may be hindered in the event that you practised karate to get into the place. Don’t tell them Porsches made you do it either! Our application is still pending review after an unfortunate Karate incident.

Ink Studio

Authentic Ink studio is a modern and traditional Japanese tattoo house located in the heart of Surry Hills. Why not turn up the Japanese vibes and get the words “Hello Kitty” tattooed on your face? Alternatively lucky dip and get random Japanese characters that you can change the meaning of depending on how you are feeling when people ask you what your tattoo means?

“nice tattoo” “oh yes, that is that Japanese signal for R U A COP?”
