Live Review: Sweetland 'Solanum' (Human Movement Remix)

Sydney duo Human Movement step up for remix duties with Sweetland's 'Solanum', turning it into a sprawling 7 minute techno dream.

What happens when a techno artist gets remixed by a techno duo? You might not have asked yourself such a question, but after hearing the answer you'll be glad I did. Sydney duo HUMAN MOVEMENT step up to bat for remix duties on Sweetlands' 'Solanum', turning it into a techno dream.

Human Movement said of the release, “We loved the original so it was hard to make it better. We decided to almost treat it like a original track. We wanted our baseline to be prominent and really drive the song and have Sweetland’s elements weave in and out of the track.” Well, that's a pretty apt description indeed.

The remix stretches out to just under 7 minutes, complete with hard hitting beats, warped bass and deep vocals to put you in a kind of upbeat trance. It's the definition of a slow burner, epitomising the sole lyric of the track, "Don't think. Just feel." Swapping the glittery synths and high hats for heavy thuds and spaced out, twinkling keys, Human Movement take Sweetland's sounds and plunge it into the depths of deep techno - a place where they both sound quite at home.

Human Movement are said to be dropping an EP very soon, so this track will tide us over as the anticipation for that release gets even more intense. Although they're still newcomers in the scene, the pair continually demonstrate skills and talent well beyond their brief but successful career so far, with this latest remix joining their incredibly high quality catalogue.
