Live Review: Outfit 'On The Water, On The Way'

The new Outfit single doesn't sound pre-programmed, as the synths bubble under a subtle percussive beat, everything just feels real.

Liverpool's OUTFIT are doing exactly what bands should do - offer a new and exciting way to produce music as a collective. Their latest single 'On The Water, On The Way' illustrates just how they're doing it.

The single comes from Outfit's upcoming new album, Slowness, which is to be released next month. An album that sets itself up to be a lot less intensely dance-driven in comparison to their previous works. Perhaps this is because of the way their latest creations sound equally electronic as they do organic.

'On The Water...' is obviously an electronic track, but the instrumentation and arrangement come across in an organic way. It doesn't sound pre-programmed as the synths bubble under a subtle percussive beat, and as harsh guitar tones slather themselves around, everything just feels real.

The outcome of this is a warm and smooth tone, that suits the reality of the vocals from Andrew P Hunt. Lyrically, the track is based around "putting on a front to save face. Pretending not to care, or that everything is fine. Smiling through the storm." And his vocals show subdued emotion, hidden behind the wall of distortion being created from his bandmates.

Outfit's Slowness is out June 15 via Memphis Industries/Shock.
