Live Review: Lancelot 'Connection' (Outboxx Remix)

10 May 2015 | 11:00 am | Emma Jones

Bristol duo Outboxx step up for remix duties on Lancelot's new track 'Connection', turning the 7 minute epic into a pulsing, thumping deep house number.

Having recently returned to the scene with the original mix of 'Connection' dropping, LANCELOT's fresh, new sounds have had justice done to them at the hands of OUTBOXX and his new remix.

What was once an epic 7 minute dark house track has been taken even deeper by the Bristol duo in this remix. Heaping on textures and chopped vocal samples, Outboxx turn Connection inside out and upside down.

The atmospheric grooves and intense but somehow soothing synths of 'Connection' have been replaced with a pulsing house beat and spliced vocals. Synth melodies break up the vocals, soaring over the ever-looping house thump, as Outboxx play with the layers going on in the track.

The track is borderline hypnotic as it moves in waves, gradually picking up speed as more and more are added to the fray. The light cymbal crashes and the thud lull you into a state of groove that is synonymous with a lot of other music coming out of Bristol lately, and one that I am certainly not complaining about.

It's the subtlety of this mix that caught my attention. Understated, but packing just enough oomph to carry it over the line, Outboxx's take on 'Connection' is serious business. Set to be released alongside another remix by Mak & Pasteman, this package drops May 11th, and is making this year look very good indeed for all three acts.
