Danny Choi is the mastermind behind GHOST LOFT, an electronic act based in Los Angeles, and he seems incapable of writing a bad song. His new song, ‘The Otherside’, is an exciting new release with a more sanguine vibe than his previous tracks.

Ghost Loft’s most well known track to date is ‘So High’, an excellent example of solid songwriting that received a lot of traction when it was reworked by none other than American rapper, Wiz Khalifa, in 2014. Since then, Ghost Loft has remained fairly quiet, but to his fans’ delight, he has just announced the release of a new EP titled, Chocolate Haze.

‘The Otherside’ is a mellow track, which showcases Choi’s dream pop vocals and his downtempo approach to production style. Ghost Loft is a hard act to define, described as having influences from R&B to electronic to chillout and ambient pop genres. However, the new track verges closer to electronic pop than anything else. It has a simple structure (albeit with a somewhat abrupt ending) and a catchy, appealing chorus that will have you singing along.

Proving to be a bit of a departure from his earlier, darker tracks, ‘The Otherside’ is a light and more upbeat sounding song with a compelling groove and just a hint of something darker. The vocals almost sound like a throwback to a certain nineties style of relaxed singing, made popular by singers like Bobby Gillespie from Primal Scream or Damon Albarn from Blur.

With its hazy vocals, chill vibes and smooth sound, this is an excellent track to wind down to. Stay tuned for the new EP, Chocolate Haze, which will be hitting the airwaves very soon.
