Live Review: Favela ‘Future Visions’

21 May 2015 | 3:13 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

FAVELA is a 22-year-old producer out of Leeds and ‘Future Visions’ is the perfect slice of his sound.

It’s appropriate this is titled ‘Future Visions’, because that’s exactly what this made me think of. It’s a retrospective take on a sound that feels so far ahead, and it’s at least very refreshing, and at most comforting.

FAVELA is a 22-year-old producer out of Leeds, creating some crafty beats with a whole lot of innovation behind them. His sound relies heavily on a warm tone, one of a relatable nature, and I think this is why this sound comes across as open and honest.

He’ll be putting out his debut EP, Future Visions, soon through Transgressive Records.

‘Future Visions’ is the perfect slice of his sound; an honest electronic piece heightened by the sensitive tone encapsulated in the warm vocals. I think if anything, this sound is a perfect benchmark and one that sets Favela apart from the masses.

The production is clean, yet scattered and I like the way it feels like a maze through someone’s mind in the sense that at any given time, there will be a different prominent aspect in the production. The percussion is minimal, and I think it needs to be in a track like this.

Favela has created an absolutely gorgeous sound with ‘Future Visions’, one that sits perfectly in the grand scheme of things. Definitely one to drive home late at night to.
