Live Review: cln 'Left Behind'

29 May 2015 | 10:16 am | Madeline Kilby

It has been synthed, manipulated, looped and distorted into something both beautiful and deeply mysterious, well beyond cln’s 20 years on this earth.

Brissy beats producer Callan Alexander AKA CLN has dropped, ‘Left Behind’, the second track from his soon-to-be-released-EP, and has left all fans of his first release, ‘Hold Me’, frothing at what might come next.

As with ‘Hold Me’, ‘Left Behind’, features cln’s own shadowy voice. This is about where the similarities end between the tracks. In ‘Left Behind’ said voice has been synthed, manipulated, looped and distorted into something both beautiful and deeply mysterious, well beyond cln’s 20 years on this earth - but rather sounding like something whimsically predicting the future of Winterfell.

Despite this there is still something surprisingly upbeat about parts of the track. Maybe it is the strings that give the feeling that this track is on a mission, or it could be the layers of orchestral horns blended with beats that remind you of a xylophone from a lullaby, or even the general synthesizing of jarring sounds that somehow blend. Who knows.

The beat masters aim was to draw you away from the vocals and to help listeners get lost in the instrumental side of the track. Experimenting both restraint and a continuous build up ‘Left Behind’ is a journey to follow, like cln's blossoming producing career.
