Live Review: Dems 'Wake' (Official Video)

15 April 2015 | 1:12 pm | Tom Hutchins

DEMS create soothingly, haunting music that feels at home in a bar, club or headphones.

We're a bit late to the party of DEMS, but we are based in Australia, so we're late to the party on everything. The clip we're offering up today comes off the back of an album that was released in 2014, but don't worry, this still sounds extremely fresh.

Before even mentioning the clip, 'Wake' itself is a dark and enthralling listen. Taking cues from down-tempo electronica and soulful RnB, the vocals float aloft, surrounded by scattered beats, atmospheric synths and beautifully subtle guitar lines. Dems create soothingly, haunting music that feels at home in a bar, club or headphones.

It sounds like it should be soundtracking visuals of a dark nature, so it's not surprising that the clip (directed by Gripping Films) surrounds itself in darkness. Following a late night route of a UK taxi driver, the video illustrates the less than perfect side to the internet. What begins as strange conversations from three strange customers, ends up representing what a person can do behind a screen at any time of the day in any place.

We don't want to spoil too much, as it's the kind of clip you can get lost in - but we can guarantee an enthralling three and a half minutes.

Dems' album, Muscle Memory is out now via Sew In Love Recordings.
