Live Review: Piecey 'Women Are Beautiful' (Radio Edit)

30 April 2015 | 3:52 pm | Emma Jones

Stoney Roads Records newest signee Piecey offers up minimal and ambient new track 'Women Are Beautiful', showing big things to come from the newcomer.

Taking things down more than a few notches, Stoney Roads Records latest signee PIECEY is all about those minimal electro sounds, and he does the entire genre justice with his new track, 'Women Are Beautiful'.

With a sound so fresh he could easily run with the big boys of minimal or ambient electro like Bonobo or Caribou, or more homegrown talents like Oisima, there is something about 'Women Are Beautiful' that I just can't get enough of. It's meditative but pulsing, smooth but skittering, gentle but groovy, and leaves no surprise at all why he would have been signed this early on.

Quiet handclaps and clicks and crisp keys are fresh over the atmospheric synths, before glitchy samples and subtle, almost trance-like sounds come into play. The track glides along for 5 minutes, never straying too far from the initial groove even when it begins to really swell.

The layering in this track is meticulous as it reaches an almost hypnotic sound, each wave washing over you with every new sound introduced. There is no official word of any future works from Piecey, but his signing to Stoney Roads can only mean big things for the up-and-comer.
