21 April 2015 | 6:34 pm | Katie Rowley

The familiar bubbling, tripping beats of LEON OSBORN'S ‘YouWere Gone’ are a hypnotic wedge of mellowness. Out now via Pilerats Records.

Released through Pilerats Records, the West Coast producer’s latest single is as faded and sun-soaked as ever. With familiar bubbling, tripping beats, LEON OSBORN'S ‘You Were Gone’ is a hypnotic wedge of mellowness.

Employing heavily distorted and murmured voices, a bit like a Jai Paul track in that you can’t make out what’s being said but it doesn’t matter, it still sounds nice.

Male and female vocals couple up, whilst scraper boards and hi hats are multi-layered on top of one another. There’s echoes of a Middle Eastern wailing guitar, choppy beats and synth samples as well as a buzzing sub bass.

Leon Osborn has been doing this for a while now, and his Soundcloud showcases a continued project in sonic exploration and experimentation. ‘You Were Gone’, despite the melancholy subject matter, like so many dance tracks actually ends up expressing itself as a warm, comfortingly nostalgic track. Out now via Pilerats Records.

You Were Gone/Map & The Territory 2-Track is out now via Pilerats Records.
