Live Review: Darius 'Helios' Ft Tennyson (Pomo Remix)

22 April 2015 | 4:20 pm | Emma Jones

Pomo and Tennyson rework French producer Darius' track 'Helios', into an upbeat, future styled electro jam!

The slow jam track featuring Wayne Snow on vocals is a sweeping, emotional ride full of subtle intricacies and just enough bass to keep things groovy. It's a somber, but moving track showing some seriously good production chops from the Parisian - but it wasn't until I heard POMO and duo Tennyson's remix that I really gave the song my attention.

Shifting into futuristic electronica - a sound Pomo is quite comfortable with - Helios is turned into an upbeat, unpredictable remix with added flair from the two producers.

By not giving too much away at first, the track works itself slowly up from a trickle. Intricate synth melodies, mini drops, soulful vocal samples and sweeping bass fit out the first two minutes of the Helios rework, until the track quickly changes. It's from here that it really comes into it's own.

Stuttered synth chords, cymbal crashes and subtle-but-so-damn-funky bass turn things up more than a few levels in the latter half of the track. Soaring, warbled synths welcome in the final part of the mix; an 8-bit style outro similar to that of our own Wave Racer or Cosmo's Midnight. It's brief, and ends suddenly just when you're expecting yet another section to kick into gear.

This remix comes alongside reworks by Bondax and Myd, and was released by Roche Musique earlier this week!
