Hip-Hop and house fave, KAYTRANADA, turns his Haitian-Canadian hand to SBTRKT’s track ‘The Light’ for a dub heavy remix.
The producer who's got too many vowels in his stage name remixed the producer who's got none, which aired last week on Kaytranada's month long Radio 1 residency.
He keeps the bass heavy heady fuzz that is SBTRKT’s signature sound, but slows the tempo down, pushes the vocals to the back seat, brings in a more pronounced drum beat and ups the space age dub-style synths.
Kaytranada garnered kudos early on from fans thanks to a clear penchant for early 90s R'n'B, posting a string of funked up takes on dancefloor classics. This SBTRKT remix is a slight departure from his usual disco-ready tunes; it’s not so much a party track, but an end-end-of-the-night-uh-oh-we-partied-a-bit-too-much-and-now-not-quite-sure-where-we-are song. And that's ok.

The heavy trap beats are moody and mildly unsettling. It’s all very atmospheric and on edge, and fades off subtly skulking into darkness.
