Live Review: THEESatisfaction 'EarthEE' ft. Shabazz Palaces, Porter Ray and Erik Blood

15 February 2015 | 12:00 am | Isabella T

THEESatisfaction release the titled track off their upcoming album 'EarthEE' - a hypnotic soulful jam.

Like pals Shabazz Palaces, THEESatisfaction bring something very different to the arena of r'n'b and hip hop. Their music is a soulful fusion of cosmic energy and feel-good vibes - its joyous, reflective and celebratory.

THEESatisfaction is the work of real life couple Stasia "Stas" Irons and singer Catherine "Cat" Harris-White. Their first gained traction on Shabazz Palaces 2011 record Black Up where they contributed vocals to many of the album's tracks. This guest spot landed them a record deal with Sub Pop, who put out their debut record,awE NaturalE, last year.

A swirling take on soul, funk and hip hop, it was clearly influenced by the 90s boom of the genres, yet it went further than just mere imitation. The group gave the r'n'b genre a shake up through elements of psychedelia and experimentation and the inclusion of political commentary about what it means to be black and gay in America.

Gearing up for the release for their follow up record, they've dropped the title track from new album EarthEE.

EarthEE is a hypnotic track of sorts, with the couple's vocals playing across the trance-inducing instrumentation like a soothing yoga chant. Shabazz Palaces' Ishmael Butler and MC Porter Ray accompany the track with a couple of verses that go perfectly with blissed out, etherial vibes of the song.

'EarthEE' packs a bunch and shows off what the group do best. It's a exciting look into what we came expect from their upcoming longplayer.
