Live Review: Porsches 'Horses'

15 January 2015 | 12:21 pm | Emma Jones

Sydney producers Carl Fox and Jesse Sewell have teamed up to become Porsches, and have delivered a "taster" of what's to come with their track 'Horses'.

Sydney based producers CARL FOX and JESSE SEWELL have joined forces to become PORSCHES - an indie dance duo with a lot of promise judging from their first track, dubbed a taster of what's to come, Horses.

Light basslines and tropical synths combined with FOX's impeccably smooth vocals, this track is infectious and dripping in good vibes. In fact, the whole track is smooth; from the echoing female vocals to the electronic beat. It's simple, but exciting, and will no doubt start to appear in more than a few DJ sets around the country before too long.

There is an element of nostalgia at work here, with the indie dance feel of the track throwing back to the days of VAN SHE or a younger CUT COPYPORSCHES have picked their way through that era and combined it with the modern electronic elements on show today to create a refreshing take on what is close to being dangerously overdone by a lot of artists.

FOX's unwavering falsetto soars over the summery synth jabs and almost jungle style beats. The pulsating, groove-driven "chorus" is where the track really takes hold, and lets the production take over. The track falls back as FOX sings, "you've got a lot of money from all of your divorces / Fly you out to Paris girl, we'll have breakfast in the morning," before the beats take over once more. The back and forth continues with swirling synths throughout, as does the sample of "Porsches" echoing through periodically.

Crisp and dreamy, the production is as you'd expect from two already accomplished producers. Although Horses is said to be a taster of what's to come with their debut single tipped to drop in February, this is a very good taste indeed!
