Artists To Watch In 2015: Cypher

1 January 2015 | 12:00 am | Clare Mingorance

After releasing tracks such as 'Liar' and 'Pretend', Faith Ty, also known by stage name Cypher, is definitely showing promising things for the year ahead.

Faith Ty, who goes by the stage name CYPHER, is a Brisbane-based singer/songwriter who this year has given us a real taste of what she has to offer in the music world, and at just 16 years old, it seems an extremely promising future awaits.

Ty first appeared on the scene in 2013 when her track 'Liar' landed her a spot as a finalist in the Triple J Unearthed High Competition. Funnily enough the track was actually the result of a school assignment, and for someone who aspired to be a punk guitarist, falling into singing was totally unexpected. How ever unexpected this may have been, we sure are glad she took the plunge. Her vocals are nothing short of mesmerising, and strike an incredible resemblance to that of Daughter lead singer, Elena Tonra.

She followed up her 2013 release with singles 'Pretend', and more recently 'Child', where she collaborated with Golden Vessel (Max Byrne) on both tracks. The seventeen year old Brisbane producer, who 'loves working with vocalists' has done an incredible job on Cypher's tunes, giving them a real chillwave vibe, adding to the dreaminess of Ty's vocals.

She has also done a number of covers that can be found on her SoundCloud, including a cover of Flume and Chet's 'Drop The Game', and Daughter's 'Youth', where she puts her own spin on both, showing just how versatile she can be.

With dreamy electric guitar riffs, spine-tingling vocals and chilled production, these are the kind of tunes to mellow out to. Late-night listening at its finest.
