Live Review: Chløë Black '27 Club' (Elderbrook Remix)

19 December 2014 | 11:59 am | Hollie Cunningham

Chløë Black released her first single '27 Club' last month, a track reminscent of Lana Del Ray and now Elderbrook has given his take on it.

A month ago London's CHLØË BLACK released her debut track '27 Club', inspired by the many musicians who have died young at the age of 27, mentioning legends like Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain.

The darkness of the subject resonates with the power and emotion in Chløë's voice, the irony is that her sound has a certain Amy Winehouse deep soul feel to it, who as we know died at the age of 27.

We have already sung Elderbook's praises here at Purple Sneakers after we heard his debut 'Simmer down' EP, deeming his sound to be a sensual use of vocals and minimalistic use of percussion to completely immerse you in his tracks, for this reason it seems so fitting for him to remix '27 club'. He preserves the harrowing elements of the original, and much like his other releases, slowly introduces his Elderbrook experimental side, evoking all the same emotions as the original yet taking you on a different journey.

Whether he's remixing or producing his own tracks, his sound is faultless, he's nurturing his own original style, starting from just experimenting with movie samples to creating hip hop beats which has now developed into an electronic trip hop infusion. His influences actually come from jazz vocalists like Sam Cooke and Billie Holiday, something which is more prominent in his latest track 'How Many Times'.
