Live Review: Chiefs 'I Could Be Down' (DEER Remix)

19 December 2014 | 12:00 am | Emma Jones

Fresh faced Melbourne producer DEER puts his Jersey Club take on Chiefs' track, I Could Be Gone.

Melbourne producer DEER has stepped up to the plate and put his own spin on other local producer CHIEFS, and his track I Could Be Down. The result is a complete overhaul, and sees DEER continue to draw influence from artists such as TRIPPY TURTLE and DJ HOODBOI, but also sees him really coming into his own as a producer.

Suspenseful yet delicate, DEER's take on this track is enthralling from the start. Part of a remix package that also sees DUGONG JR remix another track, It's All Gone, both tracks show a different side of not only the producers reworking the tracks, but of CHIEFS as well.

Still packing in that Jersey Bounce feel he's known for, DEER's rendition is my favourite of the two. Huge drums, vocal samples scattered throughout and those synth sounds he does so well - I Could Be Down is a far cry when listening to this new take. DEER takes the track and gives it a good helping of skittering beats and building drums. It's reserved for the most part, until it breaks through in all of it's thumping drums/huge cymbal crashing glory.

DEER continues to gather a seriously impressive resume. A string of notable support slots (SHLOHMO, RYAN HEMSWORTHDJEMBA DJEMBA, most recently FALCONS) as well as an appearance at PARADISE MUSIC FESTIVAL. It was his collaboration with UV BOI in MoneyWeed that really saw him starting to get a name for himself, and now with each release he seems to be solidifying this well deserved praise!
