Artists To Watch In 2015: GL

27 December 2014 | 12:00 am | Emma Jones

After a string of notable support slots, a successful EP and sell out shows with their 80's dance music, Melbourne duo GL are set to truly explode next year

Melbourne duo GL having been setting dance-floors alight this year, and things are only just getting started for them! Graeme Pogson and Ella Thompson have been making music together for a while as part of THE BAMBOOS, but it's the music they make as GL that really gets people going.

There seems to be a slow uprising of nostalgia tinged 80s dance pop that is coming out of Melbourne. With forerunners CLIENT LIAISON paving the way, others have been quick to follow suit. GL are by far my favourite; from the metallic drum machine snares to Thompson's passionate vocals, it's no wonder the duo have quickly gained a loyal following in a few months!

They first came onto the scene with singles Won't You See and What Happened To Us?, and it's their ability to pay tribute to one of dance music's most important eras, but combine it with a modern flair that makes them so intriguing and invigorating. Dripping in feel-good vibes, their music is surprisingly authentic for this day and age.

Their resume of support slots and performances continues to build as they have now been recruited for CHET FAKER's national 2015 tour. They've also supported SASKWATCH, and recently performed at MELBOURNE MUSIC WEEK and EMC. Their EP launch at Melbourne's Shebeen was sold out, with their glittery synthpop slowly but surely taking over.

They're also managed by ASTRAL PEOPLE and are signed to with Sydney's PLASTIC WORLD (home to RETIREE and CASSIUS SELECT) You can catch them at the Lorne leg of FALLS FESTIVAL thanks to the TRIPLE J UNEARTHED competition, meaning we are not the only ones with our eyes on these guys! If this is what they can pull off in their relatively small history, 2015 had better watch out!
