Live Review: RL Grime 'Valhalla' ft. Djemba Djemba (Official Video)

26 November 2014 | 4:06 pm | Emma Jones

The latest clip from RL Grime for his collaboration with Djemba Djemba, titled Valhalla, is the final instalment of a 3 part narrative of the "Void Team".

Fresh off his recently released album, Void, it's safe to say bass king RL GRIME has been pretty busy lately. When he released the track listing for the album, all eyes were drawn to the collaboration with DJEMBA DJEMBA for the track Valhalla. Well, we can finally quash that curiosity with the release of the accompanying clip for the huge, and I mean HUGE, track.

What kind of looks like the beginning of an animated sci-fi war film, the clip is the final part of the video narrative Grime has released for his clips. In this instalment, a cinematic attack is unleashed by the "Void Team" on some sort of otherworldly energy source. The animation syncs with every beat, every boom, and every drop to make a visual experience only seen by the previous clips off Void.

The behemoth that is Valhalla is one of the heavier tracks on the album, and also one of the stand outs. Both Grime's and Djemba Djemba's style are very prevalent on the track, yet blend together to offer up one of the strongest trap releases of the year. Packed with snare drums and machine gun bass, this is a throwback to what made RL Grime a reputable name in the scene in the first place.

Void also features collaborations with BIG SEANBOYZ NOIZE and HOW TO DRESS WELL, with the latter, Reminder, being a somewhat unpredictable and surprising, but welcome, addition to the record.
