Live Review: Giorgio Moroder '74 Is The New 24' (Official Video)

21 November 2014 | 12:00 am | Emma Jones

Veteran disco icon Giorgio Moroder has confirmed he is working on his first album in 30 years, and shares first track '74 Is The New 24'!

It's been 30 years since veteran disco icon GIORGIO MORODER has released an album, but thanks to his involvement with DAFT PUNK's 2013 hit LP Random Access Memories, that's all about to change! Moroder has just announced that he is working on a new release, and has released a new track to prove it!

74 Is The New 24 is Giorgio's way of saying he's not going anywhere. He said of the track, "Dance music doesn't care where you live. It doesn’t care who your friends are. It doesn’t care how much money you make. It doesn't care if your 74 or if you are 24 because... 74 is the new 24!"

The track is an instant ear-worm; rising modulated synths, distorted vocals and a thumping beat, but it's the video that really makes it.

Featuring incredible animations, the clip is almost a homage to Moroder's penchant for "retro-future" he embodied so well. A vintage car transforms into a rhinocerous, which then transforms back to the vintage car. This then transforms into a racing car, which then transforms into a human, all the while racing along what looks like a future highway. There are also images of a jaguar, a plane, a blimp and an eagle. The movement of the morphing images against the almost distressing beat of the song makes for an incredibly meticulous and interesting film clip that you want to re-watch as soon as it ends!

The man who pretty much invented disco in the 1970's alongside queen DONNA SUMMERS is one of the few industry figures that have stood the test of time. His latest album will feature a star studded list of collaborations including BRITTANY SPEARSSIAKYLIE MINOGUECHARLI XCX and many many more, this will be a testimony to how influential he was, and still is. The four-time Grammy winner/three-time Oscar winner has been DJing at festivals around the world, and was in Australia recently for this year's VIVID Live.
