Live Review: Mammals 'Move Slower' ft. Flash Forest

7 November 2014 | 12:00 am | Darren Ng

Mammals releases a new single 'Move Slower' featuring Flash Forest off his five-track EP Animalia.

Mammals would probably not belong to the faction of the new kids of the block after hopping onboard Goldroom's growing list of collaborators for latest single 'Till Sunrise' and opening for the 1975 in their tour of Australian shows. But Manley-born Guy Brown (Mammals) has enough sparkle and shine to be considered one to watch in the upcoming months.

His newest EP 'Animalia' strikes as spectacular, the five-track release transcends the ethereal madness with plenty of loose emotions flashing in all directions. It's apparent that Mammals has got what it takes to bring home the bacon. His latest collaboration with LVTHER on his single 'One Look' was done entirely over the inter web, with the pair yet to even meet in person. In 24 hours, the track on youtube racked up over 100,000 plays.

While 'One Look' is buzzing with a quick-footed upbeat presence, 'Move Slower' off Animalia encapsulates the 'infinite' vibe... well to infinity. The opening of 'Move Slower' is a cascading wave of light fingerpicks and a cadence of ambient noises. Mammals vocals seem to move with the gentle leap of a gazelle through the leafy jungle shrouded in a mystifying appeal. In between the vibrant synth and the luminescence radiating from Mammals' gentle voice, the track slips into a new environment, creating a see-saw imagery with the other weighty titles on the album.

It is as the title implies; when your movements are reduced and slowed, the warmness of intimacy envelops. That is what Mammals is capable of.

The Animalia EP is out now and available on Bandcamp.
