Live Review: Crooked Colours 'Capricious' (Paces Remix)

28 November 2014 | 12:00 am | Lauren Payne

Paces has released a little remix for his Perth friends Crooked Colours.

With CROOKED COLOURS touring across the country throughout 2014, there are of course many friends to be made along the way. One of the many friends the Perth trio have made is Gold Coast beat maker PACES and he has put together a brand new remix for the newcomers.

PACES recorded a remix for CROOKED COLOURS' track 'Capricious', which is probably the bands most sensual track yet. Synths buzz and humm across vibrant samples as the track is guided by the smooth vocals and excellent structure. 'Capricious' sounds completely different to previous track CROOKED COLOURS have released, but now it sound different again because PACES has taken it under his wing.

Moody lyrics and marimbas open the remix and you wouldn't think that these elements would work together but of course PACES has made sure that they do. The marimbas are soon joined by some very warm synths that buzz and humm, just as the original ones do, before exploding into a rainbow of sound. With marimbas and  fast-paced synths working together to create the climax, PACES has crafted a section that not only shows his talent for future beats, it also shows his talent for structure and being able to create a climax that captures your attentions without sounding scattered and messy.
