Live Review: Tkay Maidza 'Switch Lanes' (Official Video)

29 October 2014 | 4:22 pm | Emma Jones

Tkay Maidza releases official animated video, directed by Sachio Cook, for new track 'Switch Lanes' produced by Paces, off her latest EP Switch Tape.

After dropping her Switch Tape Mix Tape last month, it seems there is no stopping Adelaide's TKAY MAIDZA. She has now released some accompanying visuals for one of the stand out tracks on the mix tape, Switch Lanes.

You may already know her from other hit songs Brontosaurus or U-Huh, and if not - it won't be long until you do. Switch Lanes represents a step forward in the rapper/singer's incredibly bright future, and her latest clip is probably my favourite to date.

The stellar animation of this clip, directed by SACHIO COOK (from Adult Swim), follows a little cartoon TKAY running around an anime-influenced Internet goth world, complete with spinning pizza slices, doughnuts islands, little creatures dancing and TKAY herself flying around on a dolphin.

Ending in her landing in a intergalactic, underwater castle, it highlights the same message TKAY portrays in each of her songs - being true to herself, and leaving the haters behind. The track, of course, was produced by PACES and has already been making waves on it's own.

Always one for going against the grain and staying true to her style, TKAY has managed to do this yet again. Paired with PACES relaxed input - marimba beats and house synths - Switch Lanes showcases not only TKAY's incredible flow and rapping style, but also her ability to sing as she croons the chorus. The Tumblr friendly clip is as bright and vibrant as the girl herself, and continues to flaunt her youthful-yet-badass attitude.

She is currently killing it in the US at CMJ, and will be touring nationally this November. Stream TKAY's 'Switch Tape' HERE.
