Live Review: Espa 'Your Ghost' (Official Video)

30 October 2014 | 10:59 am | Emma Jones

UK R&B producer Espa has released the video clip to her second single 'Your Ghost' off her upcoming EP, 150th & Broadway.

Previously faceless, the UK's ESPA has finally stepped into the limelight in her latest video clip for current single, Your Ghost. Teaming up with SHIFTK3Y and Todd Oliver, the clip is eerie, mysterious and highlights Espa as a serious contender in the game.

Having already been selected as Zane Lowe's "Next Hype" on his BBC Radio 1 show, Espa's hugely impressive set of pipes really on display here. Beautifully haunting, the new accompanying visuals are pretty much the track in video form.

Playing on the sparse yet intense nature of the song, the clip features a weathered old man sitting in a chair in a dusty, empty room as a girl dances in a contemporary style; throwing herself on the ground in time with the bass and staggered drum beats. This footage is interspersed with footage of the singer herself, swaying in and out of the shadows as she chooses to reveal herself then hide again. As the track builds momentum and intensity, the dancer is subject to visual effects, making her a bit trippy but completely captivating until the very end.

The footage of Espa could be taken literally as this is the first time we have actually seen her face. Instead of taking away from the song, the clip only amplifies the beauty and range of Espa's voice, and knack for making seriously catchy tracks.

Your Ghost is significantly different to debut track, Apartment 2F, however this is deliberate as her EP (titled 150th & Broadway) is to contain tracks that each have a life of their own. Although this means we can't really predict what is still to come from this, what we DO know is that it's going to be seriously good stuff if the past two tracks are anything to go by. At just 23 years old, Espa has demonstrated serious natural talent that has been refined to highlight the very best of her.
