Don’t ask us how but, amidst an ongoing international touring schedule and the release of a deluxe edition of their last studio album, Free Your Mind, homegrown heroes CUT COPY have mixed an eighty minute cross-section of Melbourne’s dance music scene and club culture: ‘Oceans Apart’.

The compilation is slated for digital release on Cutters Records – their own dance imprint – November 11th of this year, proudly featuring nineteen tracks from Melbourne’s various label rosters, party crews and lone rangers – including the likes of Roland Tings, World’s End Press and Myles Mac. (Check below for the full deets.) Two vinyl EPs will follow on November 18th.

To promote the release, the Melbourne natives – who picked up a Grammy nomination in 2011 for their album ‘Zonoscope’ – will be running a showcase on Day 2 of Melbourne Music Week, Saturday November 15th, at Queen Victoria Markets. They’ll be joined by artists featured on the compilation (including Sleep D and Andras & Oscar). Tickets are available now via the Melbourne Music Week website, with the early bird release entirely sold out.

Founding member and vocalist, Dan Whitford, stated that the motivation for the project came from a late night conversation in a club with a friend. “One of us said, ‘the dance scene in Melbourne has gotten so interesting over the past few years – someone should really document this!’ We looked at each other knowingly, and from that moment, the idea for ‘Oceans Apart’ was born.” If the preview we’ve gotten vis-à-vis NO ZU’s ‘Raw Vis Vision’ is anything to go by, ‘Oceans Apart’ is set to be an upbeat, synth-y, innately enjoyable exploration of the city’s ever-expanding music scene, lovingly documenting the current state of the union. November can't come soon enough.
