Live Review: Zola Jesus 'Go (Blank Sea)' (Diplo Remix)

19 October 2014 | 12:00 am | Lauren Payne

Diplo has remixed Zola Jesus and now we think Diplo is actually Jesus because of how great it is.

Finding a new DIPLO remix in the morning is always a very happy time, but when it's this good you're pretty much set up for a sweet day. ZOLA JESUS is already known for her mystical melodies and ethereal vocals, now with the added club influence of DIPLO, 'Go (Blank Sea)' has a fantastic new groove that we'll be dancing too for a while.

The original mix for 'Go (Blank Sea)' sees ZOLA providing lead and backing vocals. The harmonies she creates sound angelic and with the ghostly "ha" repeating itself in the background, the track sounds magical and extremely welcoming. 'Go (Blank Sea)' feels more like an uplifting work rather than a dance floor filler, but DIPLO has changed that simply by adding in a few heavier synths and solid bass.

The synths remain the same during the introduction of DIPLO's remix. They brood and build themselves up before hand clap samples are layered over the synths and a mega climax is reached. The climax is probably the best part of the remix, it lifts the track as high as it will go and then suddenly rips into a solid bouncing synth that infects your body and you can't help but move.

DIPLO is the master of remixes, there's no doubt about that. When he's paired with a song this lush, nothing is more magnificent.
