Favela has packed out this wistful track from British producer Fyfe, creating a dreamy, romantic soundscape.

I’m not accustomed to implying that someone’s taken a track from beloved artist FYFE and made it more introspective, but in this case it’s undeniable that Leeds producer FAVELA has packed out this wistful track, creating a dreamy, romantic soundscape.

Holding On’, the leading track from the EP of the same name (which drops November 24th on Believe Recordings) saw Fyfe melding hip-hop-inspired beats with symphonic elements; it’s garnered airtime on Radio 1 and seen him tour UK and Europe with SOHN

Favela, erstwhile, is an up-and-comer with a lot to offer. His SoundCloud drew notice with thoughtful, artfully arranged tracks like ‘Easy Yoke’ and ‘Sunlight’ and his remixes habitually attack tracks from unique angles, expanding rather than detracting with dimensional layers. This latest is true to archetype.

While Fyfe’s vocals and the bare bones structure of the track are left largely intact, Favela’s remix is more percussive – and a little less polished in a way that’s unerringly charming – with multi-tracking vocals used to create a solemn echo. The effect is melodic, laidback and reflective.

This remix fills in a few of the gaps, creating a tidy counterpart to the original. In the end, it all comes down to preference: some people will love the richness of the sound, while others will long for Fyfe’s sparse production.

Personally, I’m enamored and I think you will be, too.
