Live Review: River Yarra 'The Look'

26 September 2014 | 11:10 pm | Lauren Payne

River Yarra has debuted his first single and it's probably one of the most interesting mixes you'll hear today.

RIVER YARRA is the new electronic project of Raudie McLeod who has previously been working under his own name, and as 1993. His debut single as RIVER YARRA is called ‘The Look’ and after only a few days, it has already caught the attention of electronic lovers across the country.

The single is being released through Melbourne label Solitaire Recordings, run by I’LLS alumni Dan Rutman and Hamish Mitchell, and was concocted during a visit to a friend’s farm in regional Victoria. Organic samples of rocks being thrown into water and people yelling into the distance, contribute to the already unique elements that assisted in creating ‘The Look’.

Cooling synths slide around the rock samples and help build ‘The Look’ into its climax. The light percussion gives the track a natural groove and a series of textural synths keep things from becoming too hollow and brooding. The track is something we’ve not heard before and most definitely annihilates the box that most electronic artists like to work in.
