Live Review: Montgomery 'War Cry'

15 September 2014 | 11:53 pm | Alean Penaflor

I Oh You announces latest signing Montgomery and her emotion-filled debut track, 'War Cry'.

It's time to shuffle along and make some room at the dinner table - the I OH YOU label family have a new member, a songstress named MONTGOMERY.

With her first EP New Clear War set for release come October 24, the singer/songwriter isn't keeping us entirely in the dark 'til then, with the preview of her debut track 'War Cry'. New Clear War is said to be a six-tracked record addressing the demise of relationships. (Translation: Feelings. So many feelings.)

If the emotions seem high with every key struck and gentle humming of instruments, it may have a little something to do with the record being co-produced by Tom Iansek (BIG SCARY, #1 DADS) who's undeniably got that style down-pat.

'War Cry', MONTGOMERY's introduction for listeners and future fans, is a stunning mellow-tronica affair;  faint thudding of low end beats and endless reverb of chords laying down the foundation as MONTGOMERY's sweet yet piercing vocals float a-top. As she laments, "I have this song in my head, of all the things that I could've said" there's no ignoring the sincerity and fragility that laces the track, and undeniably one that tugs at the heartstrings too.
