Live Review: Kimbra 'Miracle' (Bag Raiders Remix)

Bag Raiders remix Kimbra's 'Miracle' to great effect, giving a sweet touch to the disco-feel track.

Bag Raiders have been making sweet tunes for quite a while, with their first EP release some time back in 2007. It didn't come across as an absolute eyebrow-raiser when we heard that the Sydney duo has put their touch to Kimbra's 'Miracle'.

Planting both feet into a new genre and style takes more than just galls, courage and talent. When Kimbra emerges from the dust, she is layered in a red sheer body-suit and with a presence of 90's disco ingrained within her. 'Miracle' starts off with a funky bass line, twangy guitar parts and a groovy synth, it sets the golden mood for having an absolute ball of a time. Kimbra's fluid vocals shines radiantly with choral-sounding orchestral vocals to back her up.

Bag Raiders' version takes out most of the retro element but doesn't challenge the status quo, with a remix in mind rather than a full recreation, the track features raw snippets of unembellished vocals off Kimbra before layering it with sound reverberation and echo. The original funky bass bits are traded in for a dynamic line, when merged with a kick-snare combination, it animates the track.
